Watches & wonders 2021 Rolex & Patek Releases!

Some big releases from Patek & Rolex today. In my opinion Patek stole the show with their new releases, mainly in the nautilus line is where the interest is.
The Patek 5990 has just been released in Rose gold, which has been a long time coming in my opinion, the steel 5990 was released to replace the steel 5980 back in 2014, it was only ever available in steel and no precious metal options were available. But this has now all changed.

The 5990 is available in full rose gold with a stunning sunburst blue dial, I think the combo works exceptionally well and it is my star of the day! Just look at that dial its fantastic. Retail on this watch is £81,190, but its going to be impossible to get and I don’t think its implausible that it will be going for double that at 160K especially when its first released!
I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

Well it goes without saying green well and truly is the new blue! With AP, Rolex and Patek all introducing stunning new green dials!

There was massive amounts on anticipation over the past few months with regards to what Rolex would release, they have released some nice looking watches but all in all its a little disappointing across the board,
both in terms of what was discontinued and the new releases.

The biggest surprise of the Day is the return of the oyster batman, being discontinued just a few years ago in 2018, only to be re released today with eh updated movement and the coronet between swiss and made. It will be very hard to tell the difference between them so this may impact upon the 116 reference, most likely they will fall In price, as they have been on a bit of a bull run recently.

Whats interesting is that both oyster and jubilee are available on this model now, I don’t know how I feel about that, seems a bit datejust-like.

That leads me perfectly onto one of the next releases.
The stainless steel sky dweller and the S/G sky are both available on oyster and jubilee options now. talking to people it seems its a bit of a marmite situation with the jubilee sky, I for one am not a massive fan of it, I think oyster suits it better but we will have to see it in person. On the blue dial the jubilee does look pretty nice though.

So Daytona’s, there was a discontinuation in the gold pieces but not the one that everyone thought… Yes the green dial is still available much to the shock and chagrin of many of its oweners. It has been inflated of late due to disconitnuation rumours, which did not come to fruition, I was a little surprised but I still think this piece is seriously unavailable and the price won’t taker too much of a hit.

The situation is the same with the Daytona in platinum, also not discontinued, which I think is a good thing it would be a shame for there to be a lack of platinum available from Rolex in Daytona form. Like with the green I don’t think this will drop too much because it's still unavailable.

The big thing they have done today is all to do with dials, they have released some really cool dials that I’m going to show you, they’re cool but I was expecting more.

A surprising release but a cool one is that the wimbledon which was traditionally only 41 is now available in 36, I’m sure there will be a lot of people with smaller wrists that are pleased about this.
My Favourite of the day is the new dial on the rose DD40 its called the Eisenkiesel baguette dial, it looks really cool kind of like a granite finish and I’m all for it, I can’t wait to get one in my hands and it looks like it could be a keeper!

Finally, the explorer 2, the big 50th anniversary, and what did Rolex DO? Absolutely nothing, the watch looms exactly the same! pretty disappointing, we were all expecting and hoping for a ceramic bezel but nope, they have released pretty much exactly the same watch, the explorer 2 was hyped up in price hugely in past few weeks and it looks like for nothing tbh.

All in all Patek are winners of the day, Rolex have released some cool stuff, some things we have seen before, some new dials and bracelet combos but I think we were all expecting more. Not a bad show from them but not the best by a long stretch. I am looking g forward to getting my hands on the new ones and doing some reviews and wearing them.
