The King of the Aqaunauts? New 2021 Release Patek Philippe 5968G-001 Hands on review

In this video I get hands on with the newly released and stunning Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5968G-001 with the stunning blue dial and blue rubber strap.

It is not the first Aquanut chronograph, that would be the stunning 5968A-001, that watch was released at baselword in 2018, it came with both a black strap and a stunning orange rubber strap too, which goes incredibly well with the orange highlighted dial and chronograph sub dial. That watch was an instant hit and has been performing incredibly well as an investment piece over the last 3 years since its release. The 5968a is a stunning piece which retails at just over £38,000, last summer these were in the early £70K region but now you would struggle to pick one up for under £120,000, going to show again how great of an investment sports Patek Philippe’s are.

Anyway, this was the big news in the aquanaut space in 2018, now there’s a new daddy in town, whilst the 5968 in steel is cool, its big brother the 5968G in white gold was released this year, in 2 new vibrant colours, previously only available on the 5168G which houses a date and time only complication.

The 2 colours available on the new chronograph Aquanaut are the khaki green pictured now and the stunning gradient blue dial and strap combo.
I have with me today this stunning gradient blue dial with blue strap.

This is the first of these new white gold chrono aquanauts that I have been lucky enough to purchase, and just from first impressions all I can say is wow, what a stunning piece. Whilst I love the regular sized aquanaut 5167, I always feel it is a little too small at 40mm with that slim case, the 5958 on the other hand has a case diameter of 42.2mm and is 11mm thick, in both eh steel and the 2 white gold variations it has a lot more wrist presence and makes it feel like you’re wearing much more of a occasion watch.
A word on the movement, the 5968G has the 32 Jewel Calibre Ch28-520 C/528 movement, the same movement as the steel version and the same as the nautilus 5980. The movement is self winding and has a 45 hour chronograph. It is a flyback chrono which is more impressive than a standard chrono this watch has a skeleton caseback, which is a great thing as you can just look at and admire the intricacies of this movement. As you can see it in operation and all its glory up on the screen now.

For me this aquanaut chrono in white gold and the blue dial is one of the best aquanauts on the market, for looks, wearability and prestige. Its a top watch for collectors, and a great piece to add to any collection.

I say add to a collection as its obvious anyone who is dropping £150K on a rubber strapped timepiece is a clear watch aficionado and a top level collector, this isn’t your entry level piece not by a long shot.

Lets talk about prices, the 5968G retails from the Patek boutique at £53,280, obviously like with all the hot pieces this is impossible for any normal collector to purchase at, you would have to be spending in the hundreds if not millions of pounds with the Patek Salon to even be considered.

This coupled with the fact its the new hot watch on the market have lead to it being a way over retail piece, but it seems worthwhile.

This brand new one I am selling today is unworn, uncut strap with some stickers and we are asking £149,950 for it. I feel this is a fair piece given it is the only one on chrono24 for sale in the UK today, plus you need to compare it to the khaki green which is going for £180K, whilst I like that piece too and release green is hot property right now, in my opinion you can’t beat a stunning blue dial, especially the gradient blue seen here.

You’d also need to consider that the stainless steel version is £120K, so its only another 25% for a brand new white gold aquanaut in this comparison it seems like great value for money.

I think prices of this watch will hold for a while and start to pick up a little, supply of these watches is incredibly limited and they’re very very hard to find.
As mentioned I have it in store, for you all to see and take a look at. However I don’t think it will last that long in stock, but we shall see.
