Rua 25 de Março is located in the central region of the city of São Paulo. Considered the largest shopping center in Latin America, as it is one of the busiest retail and wholesale shopping centers in the city. Its origin is linked to important colonization and urbanization processes in the capital of São Paulo, being an important region in the city's history due to its commercial and social activities.

The street's history is also marked by the strong presence of immigrants, especially Syrians, Lebanese and Chinese. The current name of the public street was a feat of deputy Malaquias Rogério in 1865 and is characterized as a tribute to the first Brazilian constitution signed on March 25, 1824. Rua 25 de Março has a strong influence on the city's economic activities of São Paulo nowadays, moving billions of reais a year in more than 4800 establishments in the region. Even with the contemporary phenomena of emptying of traditional centers and spreading of areas dedicated to commerce, 25 de Março Street underwent changes and adaptations and maintains its social, cultural and economic importance for the city of São Paulo and for Brazil.

Nowadays, local commerce is known for the high volume of street vendors' stalls that compete for space with commercial stores, malls and galleries. These establishments offer the most diverse products, both national and imported. Although the region is of extreme economic, social and cultural importance for society, cases of irregularities with merchandise, low public security and other crimes are also part of the history of 25 de Março Street.

Currently, with the restrictions of the pandemic, the street maintains a much lower movement, but still intense.
