Dok Gaew's the injury left elbow elephant rescue journey - ElephantNews
In animal rescue, transport of a sick animal is already a difficult situation, especially when your animal weighs 3 1/2 tons with critical health issues, and weakened by injuries. Some elephants that are moved can only slowly lift their legs, shuffling forward, like Dok Geow. To leave her behind in a poor environment with some medical care and waiting for improvement is rarely an option for us. Her condition would worsen and death follow in due time; but to move her out also presents the prospect of dying. We make the best decision. Our team and local vet work hard to boost her vitality, trying to make her strong so that we can move her to a better place for healing. Dok Geow has a strong will to live and she hopes for freedom as well in her life. Today she is under continual care and retired from her life of work, relaxing now at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. I would like to thank the vet team , Dr. Jirayu ( a Phuket local vet who helped us to move Dok Geow to the sanctuary), Louise Rogerson , Khun Noom Montri , PES staff and all those who helped Darrick to make for a safe comfortable transport for Dok Geow. We hope that love can help to heal her soon.
