Attempt to save severely injured Elephant from deadly snare
Poor elephant has been suffering from a severe wound in his hind leg from a longer time. When the wildlife team found him, the elephant was in a critical situation. The wound was too deep and flies have gathered around the wound.
This poor giant has become a victim of brutal trap set by the farmers. It was found that this snare was set with a loaded gun. It was reported in several other locations also farmers have set this type of traps to kill the animal who raid their cultivations.
The wild life recue team realized that they are too late to help this poor giant, as the wound was severe and secondary infection has spread deep in the leg. But saddened by the sight of the elephant the team decided to do all the possible remedies that they can do for elephant. It is life threatening to reach such a big elephant at once. Especially when he is in pain. Even a single blow of such a big elephant would be lethal to human. Therefore, it is essential to sedate the elephant first. They loaded antiesthetic drug to the tranquilizer gun and darted the elephant. One member of the rescue team took a stick from a bush and made a slight blow towards the elephant just to confirm that whether the antiesthetic drug has come in to effect and the elephant has become unconscious.
They cut and cleared the thorny bushes to make a clear path toward the elephant. It is helpful for them to examined the wound and make the treatment properly. They injected antibiotic and several other medicines to the elephant’s body that would be helpful to cure the wound. After the treatment, revival drug was injected to elephant to regain the consciousness of sedated elephant. But I couldn’t record that step as the memory chip of my camera ran out of space.
