Washington Today (2-26-24): Supreme Court hears social media content moderation restriction cases

The Supreme Court hears First Amendment free speech challenges to Florida and Texas laws that restrict the ability of social media companies to moderate content on sites like X, YouTube and TikTok. The laws were passed to address allegations that the social media companies censor conservative viewpoints.

We hear some of the oral argument and we talk about the cases with The Hill's Legal Affairs Reporter Zach Schonfeld. (1)

Funding for parts of the federal government expires midnight Friday. President Joe Biden has invited the Democratic and Republican leaders of the House and Senate to the White House on Tuesday to discuss how to prevent a partial government shutdown.
He also plans to talk to them about his funding request for Ukraine, Israel, the Palestinians and Taiwan, which has passed the Senate, but not the House, with Republicans there pushing to add U.S. border security language they can support.

Some Democrats in Michigan mount a campaign to have people vote 'uncommitted' instead of for President Joe Biden in Tuesday's presidential primary.

A Pentagon internal review of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's hospitalization in January and why the White House and public were not told about his transfer of authority for several days found no "indication of ill intent or an attempt to obfuscate." The Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder addressed it today.
