Do’s
🍗Meat and poultry - they are the best source of protein. And a pregnant woman should have close to 100g or more of protein per day. Ideally 1.5g per kg of body weight. It is crucial to buy animal products from authentic sources, preferably organic/ grass fed.
🥛🥛Pasteurised milk and dairy products - milk is the best source of calcium which is a very important mineral required for the development of the fetal bones. Even though we supplement calcium in the second and third trimester, natural is always the best!
🍍Papaya & pineapple - I’m so done with grandmother’s tales of no pineapple or papaya in pregnancy! In moderation, it’s fine.
🫐Cut fruits with nuts and seeds. Best sources of vitamin c and omega fats.
Dont’s
🍳Bull’s eye (raw and undercooked products) - rich sources of listeria which can cause acute gastroenteritis infection in pregnant women.
🥛Raw Cow’s milk, soft cheeses - same as above! On a light note, Pasteurised soft cheese is safe to consume. Hard cheeses are even better.
🌱Raw sprouts. They can be a host to many harmful bacteria which can cause gastrointestinal infections.
🧃Juices. A big NO!!! Empty calories. All the fiber is lost during the process or juicing.
