Olms
Olms are technically salamanders, but they don’t actually look like any salamander we’re used to seeing. This weird creature looks more like a jellyfish snake than a salamander, but that’s not the weirdest thing they’ve been compared to. When they were first discovered, way back in the 1800s, people thought they were literally baby dragons that had hatched in the caves, and well, if you look closely, they do kinda look like that!
Living on their own in the darkness of the caves has given them characteristics that land-salamanders don’t have. They can sense chemical changes in their environment, follow a light source to get to a warm area, and even feel magnetic pulses, all while being completely blind! They’re like the Daredevil of the Salamander world! A very creepy-looking version.
Cave Centipede
There are creepy crawlies, and then there is creepy crawlies that might scare the life out of you - Cave centipedes are the latter. These guys are under 2 inches in size, but because of their long legs and antenna, they look twice their size! Their legs make them incredibly fast, so by the time you notice them, they’ll end up climbing up and down the walls, eating other bugs like cockroaches and spiders, showing them who’s boss!
Although they aren’t actually dangerous to humans because they can’t really kill us by biting us, that doesn’t mean that seeing them crawl on you won’t make you pass out with fear! These “harmless” centipedes are one of the scariest creatures that live in caves!
