Fall Buffing on the CSX Sand Patch Grade

On 10/10-10/11/15, I took a trip to Western Maryland/Pennsylvania with some good friends to do some railfanning on the CSX Keystone Sub, which runs from Cumberland, MD-McKeesport, PA. The Keystone Sub is home to the Sand Patch Grade, which makes for the most interesting rail operations on the east coast.

We started off in Cumberland, where we shot a yard job with an EMD pair, and Q261 with a MAC leading. We then made a quick stop in Corriganville, catching Q352 with a YN2 SD40-2 3rd out. For the rest of the day, we were at multiple spots in Western PA, catching E759, Q261 yet again, Q641 with HLCX 6249, Q353, K055 with a BNSF executive MAC, Q358, Q138, Q276, K552, Q740 with two brand new ET44AHs, a UP/UP/CN/UP powered V088, S216 with CEFX 3116, an 11 engine Q394, and L217, before calling it a day

Day 2, we were up early, and caught Q388-09 coming through Cumberland with the Spirit of Magnolia leading. We then catch Q394, An amazing sounding U828, L261, Q137, X296-08, L355, K143, B245, X791, X296-09, Q226 with an SD40-3 leader and an ex Conrail C40-8 shoving on the rear, L353, Q138 with a YN2 C40-8 leader, and Q388-10. We then head back to Cumberland, and catch K145 with a BNSF EMD trio on the Cumberland Sub. After a recrew, we catch them again on the Keystone Sub, and Q138 again before ending a great trip to Sand Patch!
