Digging out jiggers is that old way of doing it and it has worked through generations. Those who get more jiggers and become victims of jigger attack are the ones who don't kill the jigger that tormenting them. But those who remove them (we all do here Africa, especially those living in jigger prone areas) won't become jigger victims, even if they stay with victims in the same house. This is why we believe in getting out the jigger, manually. Yes, we do have those who propose that jiggers should only be suffocated, and it makes sense, but considering the victims and their state (mental and physical conditions) how can we trust them to follow the suffocation protocols, because we understand for jiggers to be suffocated there has to be routine application of the suffocant? I look at those victims and most of them cannot even remember their age, and to me the only way to help such a person is not to trust them with any responsibility of helping themselves but to help them to the best of our abilities and that includes kill jigger on their behalf. That's why we go there - to KILL THE JIGGER!
