Rakai - Jigger Digging

Jiggers are like a flea crossed with a tick. The burrow into the skin and feed there on the host. The skin around the Jigger dies and the Jigger grows. Once grown, the Jigger deposits eggs in the hosts bed or anywhere the host resides.

The children of Rakai had no shoes to protect against these Jiggers. Our team spend 3 days in Bmogola village in Rakai cleaning children's feet, removing Jiggers, and then providing them with shoes. This was hard work, but rewarding.
