The season two finale of The Mandalorian was always likely to be an action-packed affair and it proved to be exactly that.

As if the return of Boba Fett and a major showdown with primary antagonist Moff Gideon wasn't enough, the episode also saw a surprise appearance from one of Star Wars' most legendary characters: Luke Skywalker.
With the title hero and his motley crew of allies facing certain doom at the hands of the Dark Troopers, a mysterious hooded figure showed up just in the nick of time to lay waste to every single one of them. The green lightsaber is just too iconic, as is the single black glove concealing his prosthetic hand. His appearance came in the final minutes of the finale.
The scene was perfectly paced and edited to build more tension and excitement with each passing moment. The legendary Jedi took Baby Yoda into his care, and because there's no chance that Disney is letting a merchandising cash cow like Grogu ride off into the sunset, speculation has already started that we haven't seen the last of Luke in The Mandalorian.
We’re not sure what’s going to happen to Grogu in Season 3, but we do know that we want to see more of Luke Skywalker.
And while the majority of fans were delighted to see the Jedi return to the fold, some viewers took issue with the casting of the character.
As we all know, Hamill is 69 years old. Mark Hamill obviously can't play young Luke, and based on what we saw in "The Rescue," the CGI isn't good enough to de-age him for an entire season of television, but there is someone who can. Someone who fans have been saying should play the character for years. Someone who has even endorsed it himself.

Sebastian Stan! Fans have called for Stan to be cast in the role instead.
Luke's appearance in the explosive finale came in the form of a cameo from original actor Mark Hamill, who was de-aged using digital technology, while Max Lloyd Jones served as a body double.
The resemblance of Stan to a young Hamill is pretty uncanny, but that’s not the only reason fans have been calling for his involvement in “Star Wars.” There’s pretty much a perfect storm of things that make him the absolute only choice if we were to ever get a young Luke in “The Mandalorian” or any other live-action “Star Wars” property. He’s an actor already working under the Disney umbrella with his Marvel films, so it would be pretty easy to lure him to the Lucasfilm side.

As exciting as it was to see Luke in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, the poor CGI on Hamill undercut some of the emotions of the scene. He had several close-up shots and every time he spoke, it looked so fake that it was uncanny valley creepy. Stan playing the part would've resolved this matter; it would've given Lucasfilm more opportunity to get him involved in the sequence instead of standing so stiffly with such unnatural facial movements.

Since the sequel trilogy never really delved into Luke's attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order leading to Ben Solo's fall to the dark side and his exile in Ahch-To, there's a lot of untapped narratives they could tackle with Stan in the role.
In The Mandalorian, however, the story demands the presence of a young Luke, and fans have long since fan-cast Stan in the role. Since Stan's already under the Disney umbrella thanks to his MCU stint, it's safe to assume that bringing him into the galaxy far, far away wouldn't be difficult.

Honestly, if Disney ever does decide to recast Sebastian Stan as Luke Skywalker he'd have one of the most legendary acting careers ever. Two prime time roles in the largest franchises in history with being the Winter Soldier as well.
