Starting HRT At 65 What My Doctor Explained
Thinking about starting HRT after menopause? I recently had my follow-up appointment with my doctor and left with a prescription in hand for an estrogen patch and oral micronized progesterone.
In this video, I'm sharing the key things my doctor explained about starting HRT at age 65, including why we're starting with a low dose, how treatment is adjusted over time, how long some women stay on HRT, and why I shouldn't expect immediate results.
One of the biggest surprises for me was learning that once HRT is started, treatment decisions are often based more on symptoms and quality of life than on hormone blood levels. I also learned that there isn't one standard timeline for how long women remain on HRT. For some women it may be a few years, while others continue much longer under the guidance of their healthcare provider.
In this video I discuss:
✔ Why my doctor prescribed an estrogen patch and micronized progesterone
✔ Why we are starting with a low dose
✔ How HRT dosing is adjusted over time
✔ Why symptom improvement matters more than hormone numbers
✔ How long women may stay on HRT
✔ What I learned about realistic expectations and timelines
✔ The sleep, stress, fatigue, HRV, and wearable data I plan to track over the next month
As many of you know, I originally began exploring HRT because of ongoing sleep disruption, daytime fatigue, elevated stress markers, and what my Fitbit and Hume wearable data were showing. Now that I've started this next chapter, I'll be documenting the journey and sharing updates along the way.
Over the coming weeks I'll be tracking:
• Sleep quality and sleep score
• Nighttime awakenings
• HRV (Heart Rate Variability)
• Resting Heart Rate
• Stress levels
• Energy and fatigue
• Recovery and overall well-being
This video is not medical advice. I'm simply sharing my personal experience, the information provided by my physician, and my healthy aging journey.
