MEXICO’S STRANGEST DRINK | PULQUERIA TEMPLO DE DIANA

This place is easily my favorite to drink in Mexico City. If you’re a fan of weird, unusual, or strange street food. This is a traditional Mexican drink you need to try. drink Templo de Diana is a Pulqueria in Xochimilco, CDMX. It serves a drink you probably haven’t heard of before.

Here you can try an ancient Aztec drink called Pulque, the fermented sap of a kind of cactus called Maguey.

Both agave and maguey have been extremely important in the history of Mexico. These two kinds of plant have been distilled, fermented, dried, twisted, and cut into all sorts of useful things. Everything from alcohol to rope.

Pulque itself has a very interesting history. It was the drink of choice for hundreds of years by the Aztecs. When the beer brands arrived they saw this slimy white drink dominating their niche, and spread rumors about it being Fermented in the same barrels as human feces. This killed Pulque, and the beer companies won.

We set out to try the strangest flavors they had. Celery, beet, and Oyster. Would you give it a shot?
