Fun things to do with Lego Mindstorms: Battle of the Bots Robot Battle
Originally the two robots would knock each other over, then they decided to build add-ons to prevent the bots from falling on their sides. The falling over was just another way to win/lose.
You could make up any rules you want. For ours, balloons are attached to each robot - if your balloon falls off or pops - you lose. Another way to win/lose is to push the opponent into the corner boxes for a 10-second count. If the robot became disabled, that was also another way to lose. The match would last 3 1/2 minutes. If by the end of the 3 1/2 minutes the balloons were still intact and the robots were still both functioning - the group would decide which robot did best.
The match started off with just the two remote controlled robots…. the second match, we added one “interferer”, “instigator” or “pest” robot (the RCX (yellow) robots). Then on the third match a second RCX was added. The RCX robots were not remote controlled, but just set up to drive around and get in the way.
We added a speaker and microphone for commentators - which I would recommend for added fun :-) They even did music during match breaks. Everyone had fun with this project.
