Belly Dancing at Home During Covid - Lockdown can't stop these hips

I usually don't share such casual homemade videos here on youtube, but these are unusual times so here you go:)
This was my "Introductory" Dance video I shared for a "Dance Challenge" I hosted on social media. There is something strangely rewarding (and quite sweet) about wearing a costume I used to only put on to “perform.” The natural state of my cabin and the casual digital intimacy of this share makes it all the more special.

A little bit about me. First off, I love me my red wine and I enjoy burning dried cedar from the land (which is why I included a lil “taste” in this video;). I chose to go with “Belly Dance” and THIS song in particular because it’s very close to home…my roots. Not sure if you know this, but I started my BELLY dance journey in the womb (talk about literal). My mother used to perform to this heart-felt music by Light Rain. I heard these melodies in utero and they remain in a type of memory retained by the soul.

Belly Dance is a “true love” for me. It’s lead me to explore circus arts, film production and a wild life of entertainment. Now, as a homesteader, farming artist… a lot of my entertainment lifestyle has faded into merely a chapter of my life’s adventure… but belly dance; She did NOT fade. She seems to always be right beside me… inside me.

I’ve begun to use the words “Womb Wisdom” synonymously with “Belly Dance” because I feel the more I emBody this art form the more I learn … and the wiser I get. By connecting me to my intuitive compass, the dance tells me where to go. This brought me to the forest and I know now, no matter where I go I will never part way with this “true love.”


~ Rewind a bit ~

My father’s side of the family is Arabic, Syrian and he was one of the musicians my mother would dance to. They were classic hippies who ran away to SF to get married mountain top, flowers in hair. I grew up in recitals and studied all sorts of dance in and out of the home. Ballet, African, Jazz, cheerleading, capoeira and so on but Belly Dance kept bringing me back (to my core). More recently it bonded with my deeper femininity and desires to explore mystic, tantric studies and authentic sisterhood. It’s hard to get to know me with out knowing my deep love story with this dance. So here you have it, I know it may seem obvious but here’s a lil’ greater insight on me, my dedication to the craft, my gift and my practice. I sewed this costume by hand. Thanks to all who are seeing this video, for giving me the excuse to wip it out!
