Somali Week Festival 2017, Day 5 British Somali women's narratives

For this first collaboration with Poetry International at the Southbank Centre, Kayd presents British Somali women’s narratives. Caasha Lul Mohamud Yusuf will launch The Sea Migrations her first published work in translation with poet-translator Clare Pollard, published by Bloodaxe Books. Farah Gabdon, a London based poet and writer whose work is illuminated by her identities as a British and Muslim will read from her recently published book, Breathing Just A Little. The evening will round up with readings by Hanna Ali and Aisha Afrah. Hanna is a poet, a writer, a PhD candidate and a Teaching Fellow in SOAS, where she specialises in Afro-Arab Identity and her poetry unpacks questions of home, displacement and what it means to be lost. Aisha is currently completing her Master's degree in African Literature at SOAS, University of London. Her interests include translation and multilingualism within the Somali territories. She is a translator for the BBC Somali branch and her poetry explores themes such as home, womanhood, being a refugee and self love.
