BIKING the Gorgeous CHARAT--PALAI Mountain Road
Palai is an administrative unit, known as Union council which is known locally as tehsil, of the Malakand District within the Malakand Division in the province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in North Pakistan.
This place is famous for its premium quality oranges. Throughout Pakistan, Palai and the surrounding villages of the Malakand district are famous for its fine-quality produce. This includes fruits such as Peaches, Guavas, and the all-famous Palai Orange amongst many other citrus fruits.
The Thana Swat Valley road which you will see in the later part of this video, is in a nicely maintained asphalt road condition. Unlike the Thana Road, this Charat Palai portion of the road is utterly risky if not totally dangerous for any motorist. Besides being bumpy due to poor maintenance, this narrow road sits on dangerous cliffs throughout its length. Should a motorist lose control of his steering wheel, he would likely fall-off the ravine.
This being said, travel on this road is only recommended at daytime. And when it’s raining, extra care has to be taken because the road will be slippery due to the gushing rainwater that pours down from the higher portion of the road down to the foot of the mountain.
And driving along this road at night time is absolutely not recommended for obvious reasons.
Despite the dangers that this road may pose to travelers, however, some motorists bound for Islamabad or Peshawar coming from the Lower Dir in Swat Valley and vice-versa, still prefer using this road. Compared to taking the Bathkela, Dargai and Mardan route, the Thana-Palai route is still time-saving. Besides being a diversion route, it also has less traffic congestion.
The panoramic view of this mountain road is simply irresistible. From the foot of this mountain all the way to the peak, the scenery is just ridiculously stunning.
