How to improve your BJJ guard retention #Shorts

Your guard keeps getting passed and you're spending every roll on bottom side control, let's fix that right now.

First, stop being flat on your back. Your hips need to be alive and constantly moving. Think of them like a turret tracking your opponent wherever they go.

Second, your frames are everything. Inside foot on the hip, knee shield across their chest, hands fighting for collar and sleeve control. These create barriers they have to solve before passing.

Third, follow this rule: when they move left, your hips move left. When they circle right, you circle with them. You're mirroring their movement, never letting them get an angle on you.

Here's the game changer most people miss: early recovery. The moment you feel your guard starting to break down, don't wait. Hip escape immediately and reestablish your frames before they consolidate position.

And finally, drill your guard retention separately. Have your partner try to pass while you focus only on keeping guard, not sweeping, not submitting, just retaining. Do this for five-minute rounds and watch your defense transform.

Your guard is your home base, stop letting people walk through the front door. Drill these concepts, stay hip active, and I'll see you on the mats.
