What Elon Musk SpaceX just did in both Florida & Starbase shocked NASA. Never seen before
After being criticized by NASA for moving too slowly, and even facing the risk of losing its Artemis 3 contract, SpaceX is now pushing harder than ever.
Launch Pad 1 was quickly taken apart right after Flight 11 to be upgraded for the upcoming Starship v3. Over at Pad 2, testing activities are ramping up rapidly, signaling that it’s getting close to full operation. Meanwhile, construction at Gigabay has kicked into overdrive, and at LC-39A, a massive new structure almost like a giant warehouse is about to be installed.
Things at SpaceX have never been this energetic. So how is SpaceX gearing up to kick off the brand-new Starship era? Let’s find out in today’s episode of Alpha Tech.

It’s the end of an era. Launch Pad 1, the legendary site that hosted 11 Starship launches, is reaching the final chapter of its life. The familiar six-legged OLM, the roaring water deluge system, the towering Mechazilla arms, and all those massive fuel lines are now being dismantled. Not because they failed, but because SpaceX is moving on. The pad still works perfectly fine and could easily handle dozens more flights, but it’s being retired to make way for progress, the transition from Starship v2 to Starship v3. These massive structures simply weren’t built to meet the technical demands of the next-generation vehicle.
First, let’s take a look at the massive structure rising at Starbase, the Gigabay. This will be the heart of Starship production in the future, where the most advanced Starships will be built.
Over the past week, steel columns and beams have been going up non-stop, marking major progress on Crane Tower 4 and the main frame of the building. This is just the beginning, the structure is expected to rise to around 116 meters once completed.

After the main steel skeleton is in place, SpaceX will move on to installing cross beams and horizontal supports to strengthen the frame, followed by roofing and wall panels made of steel sheets, glass, and insulation materials to protect the interior from Florida’s harsh weather.
Inside, the team will install lighting, ventilation, and safety systems, as well as office and meeting spaces on the upper floors.
The entire construction process is estimated to take 12 to 18 months, depending on build speed and technical challenges. But given SpaceX’s track record, they’ve built dozens of massive facilities already, it likely won’t take that long.
Once complete, the Gigabay will enable SpaceX to ramp up production dramatically, from one Starship per week, eventually to one per day, just as Elon Musk once envisioned.
