Whatever you do, DON’T LOOK DOWN! (Exploring Tenerife’s WILD volcanic landscapes!) 🇪🇸

After a few days of monotonous beach vibes, I was lucky enough to locate one of the ONLY tours of Tenerife that is still operating during these uncertain times. Satisfied with the company's rigorous health protocols, I booked the trip and embarked on an 8-hour exploration of the Canary Islands' largest island.

The full-day tour took us north to the Teide National Park for amazing views of its namesake volcano and the rugged volcanic landscape below. From there, we travelled north to the charming seaside village of Icod de Los Vinos, home to the Drago Millenario - an 800-year old Dracaena tree - an unmistakable reminder that this was indeed Africa, not Europe.

After passing through the charming village of Garachico, we made our way to the village of Masca, perched on a mountaintop above the sea and valley below. This is, by far, one of the most impressive sights in the Canary Islands, with the journey just as impressive, winding our way around numerous switchbacks on our ascent up to the village. There, you'll find one of the most charming small towns in all of Europe.

It must be said that the roads in Tenerife are ABSOLUTELY CRAZY and not for the faint of heart (we had several close calls!). The impressive engineering of building roads across this rugged and unforgiving landscape is incredible.
