Why Do People Fight Over These Salmon? The Kenai River Salmon Fisheries
The Kenai River has some of the largest salmon in the world. It also has large runs of sockeye salmon and is located on the road system. Because of this, fishing on the Kenai Peninsula can be very political. There are three different methods of fishing that compete with each other on the Kenai Peninsula. These are sport fishing, subsistence fishing, and commercial fishing. Each fishing type is an important part of our Alaskan culture. Instead of fighting over the salmon, we need to ensure healthy populations of salmon, that way everyone can benefit from the resource. #HowtoAlaska
