Since Prime Minister John Howard stepped in and took over a small Tasmanian hospital in a marginal Liberal electorate, a number of communities around the nation are now asking 'why not our hospital?'.

KERRY O'BRIEN: The Prime Minister is still dealing with the fallout from his unprecedented takeover of a small Tasmanian hospital in a marginal Liberal electorate. But there's little doubt the prospect of such a bail out has struck a popular chord elsewhere. A number of communities around the nation are now asking the question: if the Federal Government could rescue a hospital in regional Tasmania, why not ours?
