Music lovers pay tribute to Pavarotti

KERRY O'BRIEN: Music lovers around the world are mourning the death of Italian opera legend, Luciano Pavarotti, after a year long year long battle with pancreatic cancer.

In a career spanning five decades, the 71-year-old tenor .Pavarotti came to dominate a rich pool of opera stars, but will be best remembered for his signature aria, Puccini's "Nessun Dorma".

The son of as baker, the charismatic 71-year- old tenor helped give opera a new, mass audience - and is widely regarded as the greatest voice of the century.

When he came to Australia two years ago on his farewell tour, Pavarotti's cancer had not yet announced itself, but he was already an ailing figure.
