DON'T SAY Bolognaise in Italy 🇮🇹

Forget what you know about “bolognese sauce”.

First: it’s not pronounced boloNAIse but boloGNESE and the final E is NOT silent.

Second: Bolognese sauce is actually called “ragù alla bolognese” and it’s used to make 2 of Bologna’s most famous dishes: the “tagliatelle al ragù” and “lasagne”.

The word “ragù” comes from the French word ragoût from the Middle French verb ragoûter (meaning “to awaken the appetite”) and means “something that cooks for a long time”.
