Cambodia's Flags 🇰🇭
Cambodia was colonized by the French and put in the Union of Indochina as a French protectorate there was this flag with the Royal Palace. When the country was occupied by Japan during WW2 they used this flag: red with a white map of the Angkor Wat. After the country's independence in 1953 the Kingdom of Cambodia had this flag with the Angkor Wat on it. In 1970 military leaders led by Lon Nol overthrew the government and adopted this flag. In 1975 communist forces – known as the Khmer Rouge – led by Pol Pot seized power and installed their murderous regime in a state that was officially known as: Democratic Kampuchea. When Vietnamese forces drove away the Khmer Rouge in '79 they put in place a puppet state: People's Republic of Kampuchea. Then there was the State of Cambodia and in 1992 the UN took over as a Transitional Authority in Cambodia. From 1993 the flag of the former kingdom became the country's official flag again. Yet, Cambodia was no longer a kingdom.
