The Vinkt Massacre (1940)

During the German invasion of Belgium in 1940 the Germans committed a massacre of Belgian civilians in the towns of Vinkt, Meigem and Deinze. This tragedy in commonly known as the Vinkt Massacre (Bloedbad van Vinkt). When the Germans were halted during the Battle of the Lys Wehrmacht troops from the 377th Infantry Regiment of the 225th Infantry Division slaughtered between 86 and 140 civilians.
