The Military Engineering Academy was created by order of the Revolutionary Military Council of the USSR dated March 21, 1932 on the basis of the Academy's Engineering Faculty, which moved to Moscow, and the use of the base of the Higher Civil Engineering School. Three years later, the academy was named after V.V. Kuibyshev .

The Academy occupied the old house of the Durasovs on Pokrovsky Boulevard. In 1932, a new building was built for the Military Engineering Academy on the site of the right wing of the estate at the corner of Vorontsovo Pole Street (architect A. Kruglov). From November 1941 to December 1943, the Academy was evacuated to the city of Frunze .

For many years, the chairman of the state commission for the protection of graduation projects of the V.V.Kuibyshev Military Engineering Academy was D.M. Karbyshev , a graduate of the Nikolaev School . The academy was taught by prominent scientists: Hero of Socialist Labor I.M.Rabinovich, professors M.M. Filonenko-Borodich, V.K.Dmokhovsky, V.M.Keldysh, A.F. Loleit .

With the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, the Military Engineering Academy organized accelerated training for junior students of the Academy , as well as senior students of civilian universities. A three-month course was also organized for civilian engineers drafted into the army.

In the post-war years, the Academy graduated thousands of highly qualified specialists in the field of engineering technology. Scientists of the Military Engineering Academy have developed samples of pontoon and mechanized bridges, bridge-building equipment, landing craft, highly protected command posts, shelters and protective structures from nuclear weapons, a system for radar masking of objects, and equipment for mine clearance and barriers. In the last years of the Academy's existence, there were 8 full members and 5 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 4 honored workers of science and technology, more than 300 doctors and candidates of sciences.

The Kuibyshev Military Engineering Academy was awarded the Order of the Red Banner in 1944 and the Order of Lenin in 1969 for its activities in training personnel for the engineering troops .

Today, the Academy forms part of the Combined Arms Academy of the Russian Armed Forces....
