The German photographer Asimus Remmer, who served during the Second World War in the Wehrmacht, did in 1942-1943. a series of pictures in the Kaluga region. Asmus Remmer was born on October 18, 1909 in Germany in the city of Langbalig (Flensburg County) in the family of the artist Eduard Remmer and photographer Berthe Remmer. He graduated from high school, studied photography at his mother’s studio and in Hamburg-Harburg. In 1925, he inherited his mother’s shop in Langbalig. He worked as a photographer, specializing in the field of portraiture, genre and landscape photography. He was the owner of his own studio with a darkroom. In 1935 he began to publish postcards. In 1937 he passed the exam for the title of master of photography. From 1940 to 1945 he was a soldier of the Wehrmacht. He served in the infantry, in 1942-1943 he participated in military operations on the territory of the USSR, then in France. In May 1945, he entered the American prisoner of war camp, from where he returned in the autumn of that year. In 1954, Remmer opened a photo studio in Flensburg, which he later transferred to his son. From 1969 to 1998, he worked in his studio in Westerland, printing photos from his own archive and from the archive of his parents.
