‘Throw the bums out’: Message to Albanese government amid Iranian embassy scandal

The Australian Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan spoke on the recent findings that the Iranian embassy in Canberra shared messages via telegram to support a martyrdom campaign.

“I think the Albanese government was right to expel the Iranian ambassador when it did, but it gave the public the impression that it had closed the embassy,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News host James Macpherson.

“We know that the Iranian embassy has a long history of interfering with the political outlook of Diaspora citizens of Australia, as well as cyber interference in our politics.

“Now they’ve been discovered actively recruiting Australians to go and pursue Jihad for Iran, this is bananas.”
