In a significant move toward normalising relations, India and China have introduced reciprocal visa relaxations, signalling a cooling of tensions after years of "icy" diplomacy. Starting today, Indian nationals can apply for Chinese visas online, replacing the previous requirement for in-person embassy visits. New Delhi has also launched a digital portal via the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to expedite visas for Chinese technical experts. This reform has been specifically designed to support Indian manufacturers who rely on Chinese expertise for machinery installation and training. This move follows a pivotal meeting between PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in August, and the resumption of direct flights in October after a five-year hiatus.
