India has launched its heaviest satellite ever into low Earth orbit. On Wednesday, ISRO’s LVM3-M6 rocket lifted off from Sriharikota carrying the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite, weighing nearly 6,000 kilograms. The mission set a new payload record for India, surpassing the CMS-03 satellite launched in November. ISRO said the satellite was placed into orbit with an accuracy of under two kilometres of precision. Built by U.S.-based AST SpaceMobile, BlueBird Block-2 is designed to provide mobile internet directly to smartphones. The successful commercial launch also strengthens India’s heavy-lift capability and supports future missions, including Gaganyaan.
