Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the greatest players in football history, and their stats alone make for remarkable reading, with 12 Ballon D'Ors and over 1,600 goals between them.

However, in the age of social media, it seems as though people are now holding every other player to the insane standards that Messi and Ronaldo have set during the course of their careers, even though matching them on a consistent basis is almost impossible and unsustainable.

In this video, Hazzabhajan talks about why (albeit through absolutely no fault of either of the two superstars) those standards have contributed to the rampant short-termism of football fans, and what negative knock-on effects this may have had on how we as fans perceive football nowadays.
