Feyenoord: The Forgotten Cog of the Dutch Total Football Machine

The concept of Total Football was popularised by the Ajax team of the early-1970s and the Dutch national team at the 1974 WC, both of which were spearheaded at various stages by legendary coach Rinus Michels and maverick forward Johan Cruyff.

Both of those teams are rightly remembered for their contributions to the development of the style and how much they have influenced football over the last 50 years.

But another team also pioneered Total Football at the same time as Ajax, and without this other team's influence, modern football may well look completely different - yet despite this, their contribution to its development has gone under the radar. That team is Feyenoord.

In this video, Hazzabhajan tells the story of the underappreciated yet still extremely influential Feyenoord team of the late-1960s and early-1970s, including their tactics, players, and legendary manager Ernst Happel, and who became the first Dutch team to plant their flag at the top of the European game - even before Ajax.
