I came to Hospital San Carlos, Quesada, Costa Rica, on Friday 06/17/22, after calling an ambulance. I was experiencing substernal chest pain that radiated down both arms and up my neck. My ECG looked normal with no ST elevation but my blood pressure was high. I tried to explain NSTEMI to the attendant in Classifications, but he acted like he didnt know what I was talking about. They left me sitting in the waiting area and then in a chair in another room for six hours while I was having an active NSTEMI (heart attack,) that was later confirmed by serial troponin test. These people need more and better training.

The following day, the staff left me disconnected from the cardiac monitor for more than an hour. They came and went many times from this ward and never noticed, nor did they respond to my polite attempts to get their attention. I finally had to yell loudly, and by that time I was having chest pain again because they forgot to give my high dose beta blocker (100 mgs atenolol) that controls tachycardia from dyautonomia. I was hooked back to the monitor only after I complained loudly. When I tried to tell the head nurse, he pointed to the monitor and said, "see? It's connected," and proceeded to talk over me when I tried to explain I had gone an hour with no monitor. I got louder to try and make him understand I was having chest pain because they had failed to administer the medication indicated on my chart. His response was to start barking at me about having respect. That's when I turned on the camera and began to record.

Llegué al Hospital San Carlos, Quesada, Costa Rica, el viernes 17/06/22, luego de llamar a una ambulancia. Estaba experimentando un dolor en el pecho retroesternal que se irradiaba por ambos brazos y subía por mi cuello. Mi ECG parecía normal sin elevación del segmento ST, pero mi presión arterial era alta. Traté de explicarle el NSTEMI al asistente de Clasificaciones, pero actuó como si no supiera de lo que estaba hablando. Me dejaron sentado en la sala de espera y luego en una silla en otra habitación durante seis horas mientras tenía un NSTEMI (ataque cardíaco) activo que luego se confirmó mediante una prueba de troponina en serie. Estas personas necesitan más y mejor formación.

Al día siguiente, el personal me dejó sin monitor cardíaco durante más de una hora. Vinieron y salieron de esta habitación muchas veces y nunca se dieron cuenta ni respondieron a mis educados intentos de llamar su atención. Finalmente tuve que gritar muy fuerte, y en ese momento volvía a tener dolor en el pecho porque se olvidaron de darme mi betabloqueante en dosis alta (100 mg de atenolol) que controla la taquicardia diautonómica. Volví a conectarme al monitor solo después de que me quejé en voz alta. Cuando traté de decírselo a la jefa de enfermeras, señaló el monitor y dijo: "¿Ves? Está encendido", y procedió a hablar por encima de mis palabras cuando traté de explicarle que había pasado una hora sin monitor. Hice más ruido para tratar de hacerle entender que tenía dolor en el pecho porque no me habían dado los medicamentos que aparecían en mi expediente. Su respuesta fue comenzar a ladrarme acerca de tener respeto. Fue entonces cuando encendí la cámara y comencé a grabar.
