Simple Steps to Melodic Guitar Solos | Targeting Root Notes
In today's video I'll be showing you how you can start to add more melody to your guitar soloing by targeting root notes of chords. This is a great first step to really getting to know the fretboard better and having a better understanding of which notes to play when soloing.
Many people find themselves stuck in a rut when it comes to improvising, in my professional guitar teaching experience I have often found that students are unaware of the notes they are playing and rely solely on their ears to help play the "right" notes.
Of course, training our ears is probably the most important skill any musician can develop. But if we educate our ear by being able to identify notes within the scales, this takes away some of the guess work and you will find your solos start to sound more melodic as a result.
In today's lesson will be looking at how you can start the process by becoming confident at targeting root notes of the chords we play over. The root note is simply the note that gives each chord it's name and is the most "resolved" or "right" sounding note we can play.
Please give the lesson a thumbs up if you enjoy it!
