Very Rusty 1860s Cherry Pitter Restoration | Random Restoration

Welcome!

In today's video I will be restoring a very old and very rusty cherry pitter which was patented in the 1860s. This cherry pitter was in very bad shape - It was caked in a solid layer of rust. The only paint left was small remnants. Lots of bodywork was required to fix the very rough casting that plagued all of the parts. At the end of the day it was a very fun restoration and transformation.

Like I noted earlier, some of these cherry pitters (of this exact style, made by the same manufacturer) had a patent date of 1863 and or 1865 cast into the main 'body' of the pitter. There were also some of these pitters that had "Patent Pending" instead of a patent date. This pitter never had a patent date or any text cast into the body. I found that these (*supposedly, though I could only find one source) were made starting in the late 1850s, and were made for many years.
