Travel Vlog #91 | Barcelona, Spain - Gaudi's Architecture | Sagrada Familia | Park Guell | Casa Batllo

Barcelona in itself is a huge bucket list item for many people, but Antoni Gaudi's architecture is reason enough for MANY people to travel to Barcelona. Gaudi has grown more and more famous throughout the years for his architectural style and unique pieces. The larger-than-life designs that seem to pop out of nowhere when just strolling through Barcelona have only grown in popularity through the years. Gaudi passed away in 1926, but his legacy will live on forever within the many buildings he designed within what is now Barcelona.
We started our morning out by visiting what could be argued as the highlight of Antoni Gaudi's Architecture - Sagrada Familia. This still unfinished basilica sits in the middle of Barcelona and can be seen from any high-point in the city, including another one of Gaudi's famous works: Park Guell. Sagrada Familia has been in the making for well over 100 years now, and is estimated to be finished in 2026 - exactly 100 years after Gaudi's death. This basilica truly cannot be described in words or understood by photo or video; it's truly somewhere that needs to be experienced in person. Each detail has significant meaning and no other place of worship even comes close to how unique Sagrada Familia is. Luckily you're allowed to tour Sagrada Familia's inside, it's kind of expensive but more than worth it.
After a quick breakfast break, we headed to our second Gaudi stop of the day - Casa Vicens! While not one of the most popular works of Gaudi, and slightly out of the way, we really think Casa Vicens is a hidden gem within Gaudi's works. It's much cheaper, offers a similar experience, and is Gaudi's first commissioned work, so you're able to gain insight into where Gaudi's vision came from. We toured the home, enjoyed the temporary art exhibit, and put it on our must-visit Gaudi list before heading onto our third Gaudi stop of the day - Park Guell.
Park Guell is absolutely one of Antoni Gaudi's most famous works, with the park usually selling out to capacity each day. Besides all the incredible Gaudi architecture, this is also one of the best views of Barcelona. Entrace here is reasonable as well at 10 euro a person. It's also quite out of the way, but extremely easy to reach by bus, so no worries! We recommend visiting close to sunset - it's not as hot and the golden light reflecting off of the buildings is gorgeous.
For our last two Gaudi stops we visited the famous Casa Batllo and Casa Mila. We chose not to go inside either one of these due to 1. time and 2. cost. For 2 adults to visit both of these houses it's over $150 USD. There may be combo tickets that lower the price a bit, but they were still out of our budget this time. Seeing the rooftop of Casa Mila (a.k.a. La Pedrera) is on the top of our Barcelona bucket list when we return, however.
We finished our day the best way we know how, with gelato, and headed back to our hotel. Barcelona remains one of our FAVORITE large European cities, and hopefully we shared a bit of inspiration to add it to your bucket list as well!
