All-in-One OLED RV Pedestal Tester
This is part two of my "all in one" RV pedestal tester project. After being told that it's impossible to test "3 light" wiring, voltage, and "hot skin" (energized ground resulting in a shock hazard particularly for RVs), I made a working prototype. This video reviews using those "guts" to then feed a pretty(-er?) OLED display in a smaller, self-contained unit.
- There are no batteries (all power is harvested from whatever energized pair is found, through a complex rectifier tree. Obviously, "open hot" can't do anything for a cold socket.
- The "no power" energized-contact buzzer (when the screen is dark) harvests just enough inductive power for buzzing, but can't light up the OLED.
- The entire enclosure is plastic, making this pretty safe to handle, but a shock hazard still exists if you manipulated the pedestal with more than the ground terminal as shown -- which is why I have BOTH. Tap the pedestal box before plugging in!
