Parrot Tulip Speed Painting
Happy spring! (Except where I live it's 97 degrees. Spring seemed to last about 3 days, and we're in the dog days of summer already.) Anyway, I'm very excited about the parrot tulips I planted last fall, and I've painted them before when I grew them at my old house. This video shows you my process. The video has been sped up 30 times, but I think you'll be able to see how I do it.

Colors used: cadmium yellow light, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, dioxazine mauve, sepia, cerulean, prussian blue, hooker's green, yellow green, and burnt sienna, all by Old Holland. Opera by Holbein.
Paper: 8"x 8" 300lb cold press Strathmore 500 Series Gemini watercolor paper.
Awl (used for masking fluid application): You can find them at craft or hardware stores for $2-$3.
Brushes: #1 round by 6150-R by Utrecht. #12, #10, #8 round brushes by Escoda. #6 round brush by Loew-Corning, messed up and used for texture.
Palette: Eldajon from Jerry's Artarama
Tape: Duck clean release blue painter's tape
Nail polish: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Petal to the Metal, except for my left ring finger. I smashed that fingernail in a drawer way back in February, and I feel like I should leave it alone as it's been healing and growing out.
