Mad Men Painting Don Draper and Peggy Olson

For all you Mad Men fans out there: here's a speed painting of Don and Peggy from last season. I've loved this show since the very beginning and find the dynamic between these two characters fascinating, and this was a pivotal scene.

The video has been sped up 18(!) times, and as usual, I was painting as fast as I possibly could. Painting in full color is always so much more time-consuming than working with one color or black and white, so I was really pushing it to get a little less than 3 hours of video. So if the background looks rushed, well, it was! :) I am working with a limited palette here (mostly oranges and purples with a little blue here and there).

Colors used: cadmium red light, cadmium yellow medium, cerulean, prussian blue, dioxazine mauve, and sepia, all by Old Holland.

Paper: 9"x12" 140 lb. watercolor paper by The Langton (paper is attached to the rest of the block/pad, so no need for tape).

Brushes: Royal Loew-Cornell #6 round (destroyed), #0, #1 and #6 American Painter 4000 rounds, Sax ¾” flat brush.

Preliminary drawing: 4H Derwent Graphic pencil.

Nail polish: Sinful Colors in Silver Screen. :)
