How to resolve blurry or jagged labels on a Zebra label printer (Mac and Windows)

Straight out of the box, my Zebra LP2844 printer printed like crap. Instead of crisp clean labels, they were jagged and fuzzy.

Something to watch:
I tried for hours to get LPrint by MSweet working but couldn't manage to turn off dithering. If you're good with computers and want to save a few bucks, you might be able to print on a mac for free. Check it out here: https://www.msweet.org/lprint/
