P. Shanmugam, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has said it is “wrong” to ask alliance partners to contest on a common symbol, stressing that a party’s symbol represents its identity. Speaking to The Hindu in Chennai, he shared insights on seat-sharing within the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance and commented on actor Vijay’s political entry. His remarks come amid growing discussions on coalition strategies and shifting political dynamics in Tamil Nadu ahead of upcoming elections.
