Why I Don't Recommend a 'No-Buy' & What You'll Need To Do First!
Are you considering a No Buy this year?
I’ve decided to do one this year, repeating the challenge I set myself in 2020 to buy no new clothes or wardrobe items, but with a bit of a twist. 2020 was so unusual and I want to experience undertaking a No Buy challenge in more ‘normal’ times - however this time my parameters are a bit different!
One thing that I took away from not buying anything new for my wardrobe in 2020 was how I missed the creativity and self-expression that investing in pieces for my wardrobe gives me. I’m also a great believer in buying second-hand, buying more pre-loved items than new ones over the past couple of years. So, the caveat I’ve created this year is that although I am aiming to buy very few items, anything I do buy must have been previously owned, and, in order to fund the purchase, I need first to sell something I already own.
This is because I have plenty of clothes in my wardrobe and there are pieces I no longer wear or need so that's my rule - one out before anything comes in!
You might be surprised to learn I don’t recommend doing a No-Buy to many people. I can do it because I have a wardrobe I’m 100% confident will cater to all occasions. If you have a curated or capsule wardrobe, you can probably manage a No Buy too, but if your current wardrobe doesn’t allow you total ease of dressing, for myriad events, in all seasons …. my recommendation is to wait until it does!
Instead, this year how about a goal to shop really consciously and with intention, to create a stylish, effortless wardrobe that truly meets your work and lifestyle needs?
If you’ve got my book, you have access to my 7-Step Style Strategy. Follow it and you’ll create a style and wardrobe that saves you time and money whilst reflecting and supporting you and your ambition! (LINK BELOW!)
If you already have that wardrobe that works for you, why not join me and do a No Buy too, and perhaps do what I'm doing - sell extra pieces on Vinted and use the proceeds to buy any additional bits you really want!
I’ll keep you updated over the next 12 months on how I’m getting on. In the meantime, do let me know your own thoughts and plans!
