Major cyclone threats for Australia and Mauritius again this week

Cyclone activity is on the up once again, with a large powerful storm possible for the coast of Queensland later in the week. Current projections are homing in on a landfall between Townsville and Mackay, and the storm could reach Category 5 status on the Australian Scale before it lands. Rainfall is expected to be moderate to high in many places, and the storm could recurve inland and strike the Brisbane region on its way out, with more heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, a very large cyclone is on the cards for the Mascarene islands once again this week, whilst the remnants of Belal are still swirling around further south. This new cyclone is likely to affect Rodrigues, and models are currently depicting a possible westward shift under weak steering conditions to strike Mauritius directly, with a full eye pass, and then move on to Réunion.

Other areas of interest are also brewing, and we can't forget about the already active storm, Cyclone Anggrek, located west of the Cocos Keeling islands.
