V/Line Passenger Trains in Ballarat

In this video we see V/Line passenger trains around Ballarat. Situated in western Victoria, Ballarat is Victoria's second largest regional city with a population with over 107,000 and developed predominantly in the 1850's during the Gold Rush. The city has had a proud railway history with a gorgeous historic 19th century railway station, several railway workshops, and serves as the junction for several rail lines.

We start the video at Ballarat Railway Station which is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register for being of state significance, and is notable for being one of only three train stations in Australia to feature a 19th century train shed. We also visit the adjacent heritage listed Lydiard Street level crossing which was the last level crossing in Victoria to utilise wooden swing gates, which unfortunately is currently closed due to an accident in May 2020.

We also visit the modern Wendouree station which opened in 2009 to take pressure off Ballarat station, and various trackside shots around town, including along Warrenheip Bank which is a 1 in 52 grade just outside of town (known for causing freight trains grief every now and again).
