STORYLINE:
Dozens of followers of the Coordination Framework gathered Wednesday near the suspension bridge in the center of Baghdad, calling for solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

The Suspension Bridge is one of the main entrances to the heavily fortified Green Zone where the US and most foreign embassies are based.

The protest came following a deadly blast at a Gaza City hospital on Tuesday. Protesters waved Iraqi's and the popular mobilization fighters' (PMF) flags and banners with anti-Israeli messages written on them.

There were conflicting claims of who was responsible for the blast at the al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City. Officials in Gaza quickly blamed an Israeli airstrike. Israel denied it was involved and released a flurry of video, audio and other information that it said showed the blast was instead due to a missile misfire by Islamic Jihad, another militant group operating in Gaza. The Islamic Jihad dismissed that claim.

The Associated Press has not independently verified any of the claims or evidence released by the parties.

Anti-riot police were visible in large numbers at the bridge to prevent crowds of advancing to the Green Zone. The protest was organized by the Coordination Framework, a coalition of Iran-backed parties.
