Buenos Aires, Argentina - 23 October 2023
1. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Sergio Massa, Minister of the Economy and Presidential Candidate:
"Argentina has a criminal movement. Everybody knows (Argentina has) the worst credit in terms of the size that was taken (borrowed) in Argentina a few years ago, it leaves us in a difficult situation and we have a belief and a program that is a response."
++BLACKFRAMES++
2. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Sergio Massa, Minister of the Economy and Presidential Candidate:
"Once decisions are made based on solving the problems of the current situation, not on what we would like to do. Next year the Argentine economy is going to grow and next year Argentine exports are going to be sidereal (incredible), among other things because we have a positive balance in our energy balance, because we have recovered drought and we have recovered our export capacity. If there was something glorious about this weekend, it is that in addition to the elections, we had rains that in some way boosted the last part of this campaign, which was important for the Argentine sector."

3.SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Sergio Massa, Minister of the Economy and Presidential Candidate:
"In the end, what the world expects from Argentina is balance, rationality and common sense. What it expects is temperance. What prevails is multilateralism. What it expects is predictability."
++BLACKFRAMES++
4. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Sergio Massa, Minister of the Economy and Presidential Candidate:
"Well, first of all, I do not think it is a mistake to say that the next stage is linked only to Peronism. We are a government of national unity. I am going to summon the best of the different political forces, regardless of their origin, because I believe that we have to build State policies in the fiscal order, that care in the policy of ordering the federal development policy, the educational policy, the policy of access to housing, the policy of care for our vulnerable sectors, centrally integration of people with disabilities and care for our elderly or retired people. The policy aimed at modernizing the labor market. "

STORYLINE:
Argentina’s economy minister and the anti-establishment upstart he faces in a presidential runoff next month began competing Monday to shore up the moderate voters they need.
Economy Minister Sergio Massa earned almost seven points more than chainsaw-wielding economist and freshman lawmaker Javier Milei in Sunday’s vote.
Most polls had shown Massa slightly trailing, as voters had been expected to punish him for triple-digit inflation that has eaten away at purchasing power and boosted poverty.
Speaking at a press briefing Massa reassured that the Argentine economy will grown next year.
On Nov. 19 they will either choose Massa, despite the economic deterioration that took place on his watch, or place their hopes in a self-described anarcho-capitalist who promises a drastic shake-up of South America’s second-largest economy.
