Life After a Teenage Brain Injury
Bulletproof: Mac
Mac Denniston was 14 when a mountain bike accident nearly cost him his life. He suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and there was no certainty as to what extent he would recover.
Mac had been incredibly competitive at sport. He stood out as an excellent rugby player, and made the Otago Junior team. The TBI changed all that. Mac has had to learn to walk again and he is still trying to gain more control over the left side of his body.
The injury still causes a lot of fatigue, which meant Mac has had to slowly return to school work. However, 18 months on from the accident Mac sees positives in having to re-evaluate his life and his future. Supported by his family, his mates and the Alexandra community, he is making remarkable progress.
