Hand Laying Track on our Indoor Garden Railroad

While stuck inside we are working on the layout! While a garden railroad, much of the railroad is inside. And with hand-laid track! This week staining ties, spiking rail and painting backdrop.

We are using red cedar ties stained with Watco dark walnut Danish oil thinned with mineral spirits and dry brushed over with acrylic grey-tan paint to create a weathered wood appearance.

The Micro Engineering code 250 rail is then hand spiked in place using Micro Engineering large spikes, Micro Engineering snap on track gauge and the Micromart spiking tool.

AND Karyn is working on the backdrop using the techniques taught to us by Robby Spangler, one of the great backdrop artists.

Then a bit of messing around rolling cars back and forth.
